EC: ‘Open source almost always cheaper option’

iPhone hysteria blowing out of proportion

Typing “iPhone” into ebay gives 152 out of 217 people selling free email addresses. I mean, why would anyone want an email like Apple_iPhone_Discount@yahoo.com? Anyone trustworthy and legitimate salesperson would definitely not be using yahoo, hotmail, lycos or gmail address. And the worrying thing is that they are selling for at least $49.

Sun to dual-license OpenSolaris

An anonymous source close to Sun revealed that the company plans to dual-license OpenSolaris, making the source code available under the GPL3 as well as the CDDL. Sun supposedly plans to complete the dual-licensing process after the GPL3 solidifies. At present, the GPL3 is still being revised.

Hands On the Netflix Download Video Service: Thumbs Up

I downloaded Real Genius. The 1 hour, 40 minute flick took about 16 minutes to finish on my 6mbit connection, which was being tapped at about 2mbits. And the stream started playing almost immediately. Quality was outstanding, with very few compression artifacts visible in either solids or motion. I’d guess it was about DVD quality.
