The MPAA’s Ubuntu-based university network monitoring toolkit software is no longer available for download. An Ubuntu technical board member sent a takedown notice to the group’s ISP noting that the software was being distributed without source code, which is a violation of the GPL.

And while Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo left Sega in their wake, the Dreamcast provided an experience that acted as the forerunner to many of the consoles we enjoy today. Sega should release Dreamcast 2 on 9/9/09.

iPhone hacker hachu developed a download plug-in for MobileSafari. Once installed and customized, it allows you to download data off the Internet and store it on your iPhone or iPod touch local disk in the /var/root/Downloads folder.

According to Engadget, “To put that in some perspective, HP (currently at the top of the laptop heap) shipped some 6.2 million laptops total in the last quarter, while Apple sold approximately 1.4 million in the same time period.” In other words, this is a serious digital tipping point in favor of Free Open Source Software.
